Most fibromyalgia patients suffer some sort of sleep disorder. This leaves FMS sufferers fatigued, physically drained and often incapable of dealing with the stresses associated with fibromyalgia syndrome.

Sleep Apnea

Many people with fibromyalgia suffer a disorder that causes momentary stoppages in breathing while sleeping called sleep apnea. Because sleep apnea occurs only while a person is sleeping it actually causes the person to wake up momentarily throughout the night.

The type of sleep apnea most common to sufferers of fibromyalgia is called central sleep apnea, where there is a specific miscommunication from the brain. For some reason, the brain "forgets" to tell the lungs to breathe. People suffering from this type of apnea usually remember waking up.

Central sleep apnea symptoms can disrupt a person's sleep patterns and leave fibromyalgia sufferers feeling increasingly fatigued and even more subject to pain.
